One of only two Physical/Occupational Therapy Program in Fairfax County Public Schools, this course offers two levels of Physical/Occupational Therapy courses to students.  The goal of the Level I class is to introduce students to the professions of Physical and Occupational Therapy (PT and OT), with medical terminology, basic human anatomy, and active hands-on clinical labs throughout the course year. The Level II class is an intensive study of human structure and function, reinforced with hands-on activity labs and practical experience. 

Through this course, students may also receive training and certifications in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) at the Healthcare Provider level, Bloodborne Pathogens, and Basic First Aid, all accredited by the American Heart Association.  All students are invited to become members of Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) 'Future Health Professionals', the CTSO (Career and Technical Student Organization), with student leadership opportunities in 57 competitive events at the State Leadership Conference in March and National Leadership Conference in June. Students can also apply for membership to the National Technical Honor Society.

Upon successful completion of these courses, students may choose to pursue employment as OT or PT aides, or be better prepared for pursuing degrees/licensure in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Athletic Training, Biology, Chiropractic Medicine, Exercise Physiology, Speech Therapy or Sports Medicine.

Dual Enrollment (Level 1 Only) 

PT/OT Level 1 is a Dual Enrollment course.  Students earn 3 course credits through Northern Virginia Community College for HIM 111, Medical Terminology.  Note: ALL STUDENTS ENROLLED IN THE COURSE MUST BE ELIGIBLE TO DUAL ENROLL-PLEASE SPEAK WITH YOUR COUNSELOR ABOUT ELIGIBILITY. 

Certifications (Level 2 Only) 

PT/OT Level 2 students prepare and sit for Certification as a Physical Therapy Aide (CPTA) through American Allied Health.
