Entrepreneurship 1 - Introduces students to the exciting world of creating and owning their own business.  Students will learn concepts and techniques for planning an innovative business and living the entrepreneurial lifestyle.  With “learning by doing” as the goal, students will write a business plan for the business of their choice and attend a field trip to New York City’s Wholesale District where they will purchase items to be sold at “MARKET DAY”.  In addition, students will have the opportunity to compete in business plan competitions and attend entrepreneurial seminars. 

Entrepreneurship 2- This course identifies management concerns unique to small business. It introduces the requirements necessary to initiate a small business and identifies the elements comprising a business plan. In addition, this course presents information establishing financial and administrative controls, developing a marketing strategy, managing business operations, and the legal and government relationships specific to small businesses.  Students will be involved in a number of hands-on learning opportunities including guest speakers, mentorships, job shadowing, retail simulations, operating a retail outlet and field trips.

These courses are Dual Enrolled through Northern Virginia Community College.  Students have the OPTION to “opt-in” to dual enrollment.  Those students who chose to dual enroll will receive 3 college credits at Northern Virginia Community College or will receive 3 business elective credits at the college of their choice* (*students must check with specific schools to make sure they honor the credit).  The cooperative education method is available for this course.  Students may also join the co-curricular organization, DECA.

The Entrepreneurship Program’s goal is to provide a positive learning environment where students can achieve their highest potential in the study of entrepreneurship.  Standards of Learning are supported in the course.
