FAQ's and Important Information

Q. What is an Academy class?

A. An Academy class is an chance to take a specialized elective in an area of interest! Most of our classes are career-focused, hands-on, and taught by a professional from that career!  All Chantilly Academy classes are held at Chantilly Academy located at Chantilly High School.

Q. How do I get to Chantilly Academy if I don't go to Chantilly High School?

A. Transportation (bus shuttles) are provided for a significant number of our students--this is arranged by FCPS and you will be notified by your base school student services team.

Q. How do I find out what supplies I need for my class?

A. Each teacher will update their class supply list and provide the information to students on the first day of school.

Q. Who do I contact if I have a schedule issue?

A. All scheduling issues should be discussed with your base school counselor.  Each counselor works with our Academy counselors to provide the best possible schedule for students.  Please contact your base school counselor as soon as possible with issues.

Q. Does Academy have the same bell schedule as my base high school?

A. Chantilly Academy Bell Schedule

Q. I receive special education services in my base school, how am I supported in my Academy class?

The support teams serve students with Individualized Education Program (IEP) who attend FCPS Career and Technical Education Academies

The support teams address the needs of students by providing direct academic support to students, technical support to academy instructors, and by acting as liaisons to the special education departments at students' base schools and to other Career and Transition programs. Services are based on the individual needs of each student. Examples include:

  • Individual and small group instruction in organizational and study skills
  • Individual test administration
  • Review of instructional materials
  • Behavioral support plans
  • Self-advocacy
  • Transition planning and post-secondary linkages

Q. My base school is using Schoology for my classes---what do I use to access Academy classes?

A. Chantilly Academy along with all high schools in FCPS will be using Schoology.

Q. Will industry certifications be available this year?

A. Many CTE courses prepare students for industry certification opportunities. Students who desire this professional credential must pass an industry-developed, industry evaluated exam at the end of the CTE course. Earning an industry credential demonstrates the professional skill level the student has achieved and provides industry-recognized proof that the student is prepared for career-related responsibilities or post-secondary education or training. As of the start of school  year 21-22, FCPS plans on offering industry certifications.

Q. Is attendance required for Academy classes?

A. All Academy courses follow the same attendance polices as all FCPS courses.

  • FCPS must record student attendance every school day.
  • Parents should report their student’s absences to school any day students are unable to participate in learning, including on Mondays. They may report the absences by calling the school attendance line or emailing the school-designated attendance address.
  • When parents do not report their students’ absences, teachers and school personnel will call to identify the student’s absence reasons.
    • An eNotify (electronic) message will reach parents about the student absence.
    • Parents then can reach the school and provide information about the student absences.

Q. My class is dual enrolled, what does that mean?

A. Dual enrollment allows high school students to enroll in post-secondary coursework while earning high school and college credit. Students enrolled in a dual enrollment course may pay college tuition; however, because FCPS provides the instructor as well as the facility, the tuition is significantly discounted from what a student would pay if they took the course at the college or university. Currently, the dual enrollment tuition for Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) is at no cost. For more information visit the Dual Enrollment Google Site---NOTE: You need to sign into your fcpsschools.net account to view

Q. What are Academy Ambassadors?

A. Chantilly Academy Student Ambassadors are a small group of students dedicated to the positive promotion of Chantilly Governor’s STEM Academy. They will work on a volunteer basis to serve as liaisons between the current Chantilly Academy community and prospective students. If you are interested in serving as an ambassador, contact Mrs. Wannett
